3/3/2017 0 Comments Blog Post #6 3-3-17 Women have been thought to have little intellect and skill set, except a skill set in the kitchen. A huge indication of the issue at hand is the employment in Computer Science fields. In an article titled Girls Who Code Closing Computer Science Gender Gap, Cayce Hill states this, "Currently women pose only 18 percent of the computer science field. By 2020 there will be 1.4 million job openings and women will only fill 3 percent of that demand ”. Girls are beginning to take a stand against this statistic. Marshfield High has created a Girls who Code Club, and this club is making a difference.
Currently adults see a large gender gap and are not happy about it. Their daughters are put into a stereotypical box that makes their self worth dwindle. Educating young children that a position in a STEM related job does not have to be filled with men specifically, women can do the job just as well. After decades STEM gender gaps are slowly, but surely starting to close. Bravery is an important trait women need to have in order to live in a male ridden workforce. Standing alongside one another women have been overcoming social “norms”, and teaching their daughters about equality. Organizations like, Girls who Code Club, is just the beginning of a female revolution.
